ABDIE LADIES CURLING CLUB CELEBRATES 75 YEARS

Abdie Ladies Curling Club held a lunch to celebrate their 75th Anniversary at the Royal George Hotel, Tay Street Perth, PH1 5LD on Saturday 23rd April 2011.

We contacted 79 past and present members of whom 29 were able to attend on the day.

Everything went rather well, the sparkling wine and canapés while new met old and caught up with friends not seen for a long-time. We had an ongoing presentation of pictures old and new, memorabilia, shining trophies and each person was presented with a 75th Anniversary Mug.

Our President chaired the proceedings with aplomb engendering memories and laughter aplenty.

Diz Ferguson did us proud with her stories of old and  her jokes.  Barbara Baird also gave a fine talk after which we surprised her by presenting her with Honorary Membership of Abdie Ladies Curling Club, which she so much deserved, in recognition of all her work over the years for the club.  We could not have had better people than Hilda Clow to remind us of our dear friends that have all passed away since the last anniversary and Davina Lister for saying the Curlers’ Grace.

The cake, made and decorated by Isla Kinnear was magnificent and tasted wonderful. The flowers were  delicately arranged by the hands of Kate Drummond-Hay.  The lunch provided by the Royal George was enjoyed by all.

The noise round the tables was incredible and constant, it was good to hear so many people laughing and having fun.

The afternoon was rounded off by Isla Kinnear who gave the vote of thanks.

The day was made possible by the fine teamwork of all the ladies mentioned above all of whom are Abdie Ladies Curling Club members.

If anyone is interested in taking up or coming back to curling in the new season starting in October 2011 please contact:
