WHAT THE PAPERS SAID

MORE WINDOW BREAKING

Another merchant had a shop window in the town square broken this week. Two smashes within two weeks are too many. The disappointing fact of the matter is the indifference of the culprits who seem to have no respect for the property of others. The Town Council will presume to take up this matter and provide protection for the rate payers.

SAFETY FIRST

An opinion is prevalent the burgh thorofares are not all free from dangers of motor traffic. As a case in point the School Wynd is a tunnel of a street in which there is no defined footpath, motor wagons run to and from the station. It would appear that some of these vehicles travel at too high speed are  apparently hornless. They certainly make plenty of racket and with the din and rattle of loose joints and spasmodic engine fire an accident may happen any day now. The playground from the school empties itself directly onto the wynd. Kids rushing out of the playground have no view of approaching traffic and find themselves on the roadway for there is no pavement or sidepath. Speeds must be slowed or a better route followed. The second alternative might add 30 seconds on to a journey, but safety first.

I took this from a paper in the Library years ago. It is word for word as written in the paper.
