Abernethy Scouts and employees from McDonald’s Restaurant, Dunkeld Road recently carried out a litter pick between Newburgh and Aberargie.
The scouts at Abernethy were currently working towards their Environmental Conservation Activity badge and wanted to find something that they could do to improve the area where they live. After discussion it was clear that there was a litter problem on the A913 Aberargie to Newburgh Road from motorists throwing rubbish from their vehicles and so the scouts decided to carry out a litter pick on the 6 miles of roadway.
Gordon Miller, Abernethy Scout Leader, contacted McDonalds to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the Scouts in the litter pick. However, they went one better and sent a car load of their staff from McDonalds to work with the youngsters during the clean-up.
The Scouts found it hard work and were surprised at the amount of rubbish collected with over 20 large bin bags filled. They were kindly rewarded with a voucher for a free McDonald’s meal and no doubt will take full advantage in the near future.
Shaun Docherty of McDonalds stated "We are always keen to help where we can when approached by community groups. For several years now, we have been involved with many groups in and around the Perth area. On this occasion it was a privilege to link up with the Abernethy Scouts."
