A DIFFERENT YEAR

Well what a year it has been. Who knew we would miss our hairstylists and beauty therapists as much as we did in lock-down? But this year will be more exciting, with people planning Christmas nights out. It’s the simple things such as a blow dry and a nice new outfit to hit the party nights with friends from work or college or just with family that brings stylists great joy.

Hearing what our customers have planned for this Christmas party season has been a mixed picture but always with an edge of caution on peoples’ voices. Sadly things won’t be the same as before, but people are adapting and making the most of what they have and what they are allowed to do to while keeping themselves and loved ones safe

It’s so strange talking hair and what trends I think will make an appearance this season when it feels like we have jumped straight from summer to winter. I don’t think that I am quite ready for winter just yet, I’ve just put my sandals away.

One trend we have seen the return of is the mullet which is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it does look really cool. There are lots of variations such as the wolf cut and the shag cut which help to create volume and texture, and I really do hope that more trendy short haircuts come back next year.

With Christmas fast approaching, deciding how I am going to paint our window is my favourite thing to do. I’m not sure if I’m going to be ambitious and try painting the polar express train or paint polar bears poking their noses out from under a curtain but one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be full on from now until Christmas. We are pleased to say that my work as a colourist and as an educator has got both myself and our lovely colouring assistant through to the finals of the Scottish hair and beauty awards. Work has to be submitted and is judged by Errol Douglas and Rick Roberts and Suzi McGill of Rainbow Room International who are well recognised artists within the UK. To bring an award home for best Scottish colourist and best assistant would be the best Christmas present ever; wish us luck!

I look forward to wishing all our customers a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Let’s hope 2022 is a good year for all of us.

Love from us all at the Little Hair Company.
