ABERNETHY

I have been reading quite a few old documents and title deeds held by the Museum of Abernethy, or is it Abernathy? Are the signs we see at Aberargie “stating Abernethy 3 miles” or the sign at either end of the village with village’s name on it spelt correctly?

The reason I say this is that within these documents there are many different spellings of our village name. Should it be Abernathy like the surname of many Americans that visit the museum and claim to have originated from here, or is it Abernethie, or Abernethi or Abernathi? Are we on the banks of the Nathy burn and not the Nethy burn? Should it be Abernathy biscuits or Abernethie biscuits?

Should it be the Burns Club of Abernathy or the Museum of Abernethie?

I have a headache and I’m just off to phone PKC to get the signs changed, but to what?
