We had a very interesting visitor from the United States on the 12th of July.
May Davis from Georgia visited Berryfields with her family and said that she used to visit her grandmother in the 1950s when Berryfields was Pitblae Cottage.
May was kind enough to write the details in the visitor book and we thought this would be a lovely story and a nice bit of local history.
It was mentioned that Granny Roy was buried next door in the cemetery but after a few days of looking I could not find it !
A few days later a family with 3 children came in and they had obviously read the visitor book as they shortly came running in to say that they had found the gravestone for Jean Roy. I marked this into the page as well.
A few short weeks later a letter arrived to say how much she enjoyed her visit. We have been sharing the story with all the visitors and the locals were saying we should put it up for the next edition of The Crier.
Hope this is of interest.
This photo shows the cottage with some of the Roy family at the time in question. Left to right. Marion Roy, Mrs Roy (mother) John Roy and Jim Roy.
